Will Eid Al Fitr 2025 Be Celebrated In The UAE on March 30 or 31?
As the holy month of Ramadan comes to an end, the biggest question is: Will Eid Al-Fitr be on Sunday, March 30, or on Monday, March 31? However, the final date will be determined by sightings of the Shawwal crescent. Astronomical experts and legislative bodies will conduct the lunar observations to make a final decision.
Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, Emirati astronomer and Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, said in a statement that astronomical calculations confirm that the Shawwal Crescent will not be visible after sunset on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
So according to the Emirates Astronomy Society, Ramadan will last 30 days and will end on Sunday, March 20, 2025, and Eid Al-Fitr will be commemorated on Monday, March 31, 2025.
Ibrahim Al-Jarwan further stated, “The Shawwal crescent will be born on Saturday, March 29, at 14:58 UAE time. It will be set approximately five minutes after sunset in the UAE and around ten minutes after sunset in Mecca. The age of the crescent—defined as the period between conjunction and the time of observation at sunset—will be approximately three hours and 35 minutes in the UAE and around four hours and 25 minutes in Mecca.”

Based on astronomical calculations, the crescent will be about 2 degrees above the western horizon and in the UAE, it will be almost at the horizon. Al-Jarwan cited over 100 years of astronomical records, including 5000 documented crescent sightings. These studies established the minimum conditions needed to see the crescent, whether by the naked eye, binoculars, or telescopes under clear skies.
