Australian architecture and urban planning firm Woods Bagot has been appointed as lead master-planning consultant for a large-scale mixed-use development in Abu Dhabi, jointly commissioned by Abu Dhabi National Company for Building Materials (BILDCO) and Wujod Real Estate Development. The project covers nearly 10 million square metres, making it one of the most significant urban planning commissions in the emirate in recent years.
The appointment was announced through an official statement submitted to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX). BILDCO and Wujod Real Estate Development selected Woods Bagot following a competitive evaluation process that included a number of internationally recognised firms in the fields of planning, architecture, and urban development.
The development is designed as a sustainable urban destination combining residential, commercial, educational, healthcare, recreational, innovation, and economic components. The integrated nature of the project positions it as a self-contained community at scale rather than a single-use development.
Scope of Work
Woods Bagot’s appointment covers a comprehensive range of planning and strategic services. The firm’s responsibilities include:
- Preparation of the strategic vision and development framework
- Conceptual and detailed master plans
- Implementation strategy and commercial alignment studies
- Land-use and infrastructure planning
- Development of high-quality visualisations to support long-term positioning and investment
The current phase focuses on completing the full master plan and establishing the strategic planning framework. This framework will guide phased development and support future infrastructure investment, community planning, and economic growth across the site.

Why This Development Matters for Abu Dhabi Real Estate
A project of this size and scope reflects the continued momentum in Abu Dhabi’s real estate and infrastructure sector. Large-scale master-planned developments have become a defining feature of the emirate’s urban strategy, with sustainability and mixed-use integration increasingly central to how new communities are designed.
The involvement of an internationally recognised firm like Woods Bagot signals a commitment to global planning standards and long-term viability. Woods Bagot, headquartered in Australia with studios across Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas, brings experience in complex urban development projects that span multiple use cases and delivery phases.
For investors and end-users, projects built around integrated master plans tend to offer stronger long-term value due to planned infrastructure, balanced land use, and phased delivery that reduces exposure to oversupply.
About BILDCO and Wujod Real Estate Development
BILDCO, the Abu Dhabi National Company for Building Materials, is a publicly listed entity on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. Wujod Real Estate Development is its joint development partner on this project. Looking Ahead
With the master plan now being prepared under Woods Bagot’s lead, the project is entering a critical strategic phase. Detailed planning will define land use allocations, infrastructure requirements, and investment frameworks that will shape how the nearly 10 million square metre site is brought to market over time.
Further announcements regarding development phases, investment opportunities, and community components are expected as the master planning process advances.
